Conditioning Regimen Intensity.
The more intense and myeloablative the protocol, the more toxic it is and less in need to rely on graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) for residual disease elimination. Reduced-intensity regimens are less toxic and rely more on an immunotherapeutic GVL effect to prevent relapse. Conditioning may include also the use of anti-thymocytic globulins in MUD HSCT.
